Structure
Cohort
Starting Dates, May, August, and January I.T. / A.C.P. will conduct
three training cycles annually. Pre-internship training will be
offered before each cycle. Summer training is held weekdays during
the month of June. The teaching internship begins the semester
immediately following the completion of pre-internship training.
After the completion of pre-internship training, the candidate must
complete a one-year internship. The internship involves obtaining
employment in the certification area as well as additional training
as determined by I.T / A.C.P. available for successful mastery of
knowledge and skills. Standards for Texas educators for both content
area and pedagogy will be incorporated into the program in order
that candidates know how and what is expected for highly qualified
teachers in Texas public schools according to convergent research
(i.e., No Child Left Behind). The benchmarks for continued support
for success will include an applicant checklist for: direct
observations of teacher candidates' weekly reflections of theories,
methodologies, strategies, assessment, tracked use of Blackboard
(course management and document sharing system of the IT/ACP),
regularly documented submissions of quality projects, assignments,
& research in Blackboard, multimedia presentations, observation
log (20 minimum), community service project documentation, classroom
exams, teacher-candidates self-evaluations, teacher-candidate
projects, electronic lesson plans, presentation of a lessons using
various software, peripherals, & internet connections,
demonstration of basic technology skills according to beginning
Texas Teacher Standards, portfolios, candidate-developed assessment
for classroom use. Each candidate will complete approximately 224
hours of program training and
coursework. |

Support
Candidates will
be required to attend a series of professional development seminars
that focus on enhancing skills for a highly-qualified, successful
teacher. The seminars will include the following content and will be
delivered in a hybrid program (face-to-face and online): effective
teaching practice, classroom management, pedagogical vocabulary,
creating classroom environment, technology applications in the
classroom, varied assessment measures (formal, informal, &
authentic), modifications in instructional planning, implementation,
evaluation, and assessment, benchmarking, monitoring, and immediate
feedback, parental/community/involvement, foundations of education,
reflective practitioner in lifelong learning, 504/ special
education/GT, diverse populations, how learning occurs (acquisition,
cognition, metacognition), engaging
instruction, human development, oral communication, content area
instruction (non-fiction, lexical understanding), creating effective
learning environments (individual, cooperative group, &
whole-class), ethical and legal
responsibilities.
